John Speakman Elected Foreign Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences
On May 29, Hou Jianguo, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presents certificates and badges of Foreign Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences to professor John Speakman, at the 20th meeting conflating the general assemblies of the members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held in Beijing Friendship Hotel.

Professor Speakman accepted the invitation to participate in this conference. In an interview with China International Television (CGTN) after the meeting, professor Speakman expressed his great honor for being elected as a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and being invited to attend the meeting as a representative. He believes that the speech delivered by general secretary Xi Jinping at the conference is strategically important and completely recognizes China's past and future investment in basic science and the strategic plan for building a national laboratory. He said that he was looking forward to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, especially Shenzhen.
Meanwhile, Cheng Huiming, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries, Honorary President and Chair Professor of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at SIAT, was invited to attend this conference as well.
Professor Speakman is a chief scientist (full-time) at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT), and a chair professor of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at SIAT. He also serves as an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Sciences, Royal Society and European Academy of Sciences.
