Prof. Dr. Jianbin Xu received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Nanjing University in 1983 and 1986, respectively. Since 1988, he was highly privileged to study in the University of Konstanz, particularly under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Klaus Dransfeld* (Member of German National Academy of Sciences; Founding Director of Institute for High Magnetic Fields, Max-Plank Society; Former Director of Institute for Solid State Research, Max-Plank Society). His doctoral dissertation was focused on nanoscopic heat transport associated with electronic processes. He earned his doctorate (Dr.rer.nat.) in 1993. Afterwards, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has become a faculty member in 1994. He has been a Professor in the department since the midst of 2002. He has been named as Choh-Ming Li Chair Professor of Electronic Engineering since August 2022. He has served as the academic Vice President of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences since August 2024.

Prof. Dr. Jianbin Xu’s research interests include 2D materials; advanced energy science and technology; scanning probe techniques; interface engineering for materials and devices; physics and technology of organic semiconductors; functional oxides, etc. He has published c.a. 500 papers in peer-reviewed professional journals and conferences, with c.a. 25000 SCI peer citations, and c.a. 30000 Google Scholar citations, which include the citations by Nobel Laureates: H. Rohrer (1986), A. Fert (2007), K. Novoselov (2010), Louis E. Brus (2023), I. Akasaki (2014), S. Nakamura (2014), J. F. Stoddart (2016), Moungi G. Bawendi (2023), and by Wolf Prize Laureates: Pablo Jarillo-Herrero (2020), A. Paul Alivisatos (2004), C. W. Tang (2011); as well as the citations by more than 30 academicians of US National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering, German National Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Royal Society, et al. Meanwhile, he has secured more than 50 competitive research grants. Also he actively participates in a myriad of professional activities and has served as symposium chair in several international conferences. He is a Fellow of IEEE and Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Member of American Physical Society. He is a recipient of Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau Scholars (formerly Distinguished Young Scholar Fund for Overseas Chinese), awarded by NSFC, a nationally prestigious fund; The Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) in the category of Natural Sciences (2nd Class), by Ministry of Education, China; Research Excellence Award by The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Vice-Chancellor's Outstanding Fellow of Faculty of Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Also he was Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professor by Ministry of Education, China.
